In the early hours of September 4th, during a grueling 6-day climb, a group 18 Young Leaders from Save a Child’s Heart reached the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain.
The group climbed the mountain as the climax to a fundraising effort that they’ve been pursuing since April. Together, they raised over $62,000, every cent of which will go directly to saving the lives of children in need of heart treatment.
Prior to the climb, the group met with Esther, a 14 year old Masai girl who was orphaned at birth. Five years ago she traveled from her orphanage in Tanzania to Israel where she underwent life-saving heart at the Wolfson Medical Center. One of the climbers is SACH cardiologist, Dr. Sagi Assa, who was part of the team who operated on Esther, he spent time with Esther speaking about her pursuit of becoming a physician.
We are extremely proud of our climbers. Neither the climb nor the fundraising were easy feats, and their success is testimony to their dedication to Save a Child’s Heart.
On behalf of everyone at SACH we say THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts.
