During these difficult days as the global communities of the world are combatting the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, we wanted to update you, our worldwide family and committed supporters, about what we are doing to keep the children under our care in Israel safe and healthy, and how this has affected our planned activities.
The health and wellbeing of the children and their caretakers currently at the SACH Children's Home is our primary concern. We have taken pre-emptive steps to keep them safe from the Coronavirus and no guests or unnecessary staff are permitted to enter the home. Our dedicated housemother, Laura, is looking after the daily needs of the children, food supplies, toiletries, cleaning products, diapers, medicine etc. Our volunteer medical team from the Wolfson Medical Center (WMC), is in constant contact and is continuing to provide care and treatment as required while preforming scheduled procedures on children. The SACH team in its entirety is committed to the children and their families and despite it all we have been able to complete treatments on three children who returned back home to Zanzibar yesterday after they fully recovered and two more children from Ethiopia will be returning to their awaiting families on Thursday.
All volunteers and interns have been briefed and continue to support the work at SACH from afar.
Due to travel restrictions and the closed borders policy enacted for safety measures by most countries and in Israel, we are currently unable to receive new children for treatment. Rest assured that as these bans will be lifted, we will be back in full swing to provide treatments to all the awaiting children. Meanwhile, construction on the new Children's Hospital at WMC is progressing as planned and procurement of medical equipment is continuing as we maintain our intended opening for the end of 2020.
At this difficult time, we want to thank all our dedicated supporters for checking in and continuing to support our work. We would also like to acknowledge our incredibly devoted medical team and medical fellows from partner countries who have become an indispensable part of the team at WMC, and are all working daily to provide the best care for all their patients and the children at SACH. We know that despite all the challenges of today, together we will emerge stronger and more determined to continue our lifesaving work, bringing hope to so many children and their families.
We count on your continued support - please continue to stay in touch and remain updated via our website, social media channels and our local affiliate offices. If you are able to make a donation, as always, we would be incredibly appreciative as it enables us to continue our lifesaving mission to heal children from around the world and prepare to do so quickly when the pandemic ends.
Thank you for all that you do for Save a Child's Heart, we wish you, your loved ones and communities good health.
