Prof. Schachner elected as President of SACH Israel

We are pleased to announce that Professor Arie Schachner was recently elected as President of Save a Child’s Heart Israel.

Prof. Schachner was born in Poland and immigrated to Israel at the age of 10. He served in the Israel Defense Forces with the rank of Major. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from the Sackler School of Medicine at Tel Aviv University in 1969.

Prof. Schachner began his career in cardiothoracic surgery with a residency at Rabin Medical Center in Petach Tikva, Israel. He went on to complete fellowships in adult and pediatric cardiovascular surgery at State University of New York in Buffalo, New York, and was certified by the Israel Board of Specialists in 1978. He became a full-time staff physician in the Department of Thoracic and Cardiac Surgery at the Rabin Medical Center in 1977, and five years later became Deputy Chief of the department.

Since 1974, Prof. Schachner has been part of the faculty of the Sackler School of Medicine, becoming Associate Professor in 1989.

<br>In 1991, Prof. Arie Schachner founded the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the Edith Wolfson Medical Center in Holon, Israel. He led the department until his retirement in March 2007, and along the way he has had over 85 articles published in professional journals, has actively participated in around 45 international seminars and has had papers presented at more than 70 conferences.

Prof. Schachner was the teacher and mentor of Save a Child’s Heart pediatric heart surgeon, Dr. Lior Sasson, and we are truly honored to welcome him as President of Save a Child’s Heart Israel.
